Cape Cod Man Who Killed Police Sgt. Sean Gannon Forfeits $29K

Thomas Latanowich was said to have had over $29,000 in drug profits at the time of his arrest. He forfeited that money this week.

BARNSTABLE, MA — The state and Thomas Latanowich, who was convicted in the killing of Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon, reached a civil forfeiture action resolution this week.

Thomas Latanowich is set to forfeit $29,338, money that state officials argue he made from illegal drug sales.

The matter stemmed from the murder of Gannon on April 12, 2018 at 109 Blueberry Lane, in Marstons Mills, Mass.

State officials alleged that after shooting Gannon and his K-9 Nero, and prior to surrendering to police, Latanowich flushed a quantity of narcotics down a toilet in the residence and attempted to hide approximately $25,000.

Officers from both the Barnstable Police Department and the Yarmouth Police Department located the funds in the drywall of a bedroom. Latanowich also had $4,338 on his person at the time of his arrest later that day.

Based upon information developed during the investigation, the Commonwealth determined that the money represented the proceeds of drug transactions forfeitable under law and initiated this forfeiture proceeding in the Barnstable Superior Court.

The matter was scheduled for trial this week, but Latanowich no longer wanted to contest the forfeiture.
