Cape Cod National Seashore A Homecoming For New Superintendent

Jennifer Flynn will begin the role in mid-November. Current Superintendent Brian Carlstrom is moving on after five years in the job.

CAPE COD, MA — The Cape Cod National Seashore will be overseen by a new superintendent starting later this year.

Brian Carlstrom, who has been in the superintendent role since the spring of 2018, will be leaving to serve as the deputy regional director of the Intermountain Region on Oct. 8. But the National Parks Service has already tabbed his replacement.

Jennifer Flynn will start as the Seashore's new superintendent starting in mid-November. She's had a long NPS career, but one that started at the place of her new role.

Her National Park Service career spans over 30 years and six national parks where she served in a variety of leadership roles. Most recently Flynn served as the Associate Director for Visitor and Resource Protection at National Park Service headquarters.

Prior to that assignment, she spent 10 years at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia as the park’s superintendent and deputy superintendent.

"Jennifer brings a wealth of National Park Service experience with a deep commitment to community engagement, resource protection and employee development,” Northeast Deputy Regional Director Cinda Waldbuesser said. “We are excited to welcome Jennifer back to Cape Cod National Seashore where she began her National Park Service career. Her outstanding leadership skills make her an excellent choice to lead the Seashore.”

Flynn and her family are set to move to the Cape in the coming months.

“I am thrilled to be selected as the Superintendent of Cape Cod National Seashore,” Jennifer Flynn said.

“Thirty-two years ago, I began my National Park Service career at the Seashore as a temporary employee. I am forever grateful that the Seashore introduced me to the NPS mission and my life's work. I have been fortunate to have lived and worked in some of America's most iconic and special places over my career and I am excited to bring that experience home. I look forward to meeting the dedicated staff at the park and engage with the communities that make the Seashore the national treasure that it is.”
