Moakley Wins Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket Primary: MA Elections
The Plymouth and Barnstable Senate District is separated by just 50 votes as of 9:30 a.m., the Associated Press reports.

CAPE COD, MA — Thomas Moakley has won the Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District primary, but the Plymouth and Barnstable Senate District race hasn't yet been called by the Associated Press in an extremely tight race as of 9:28 a.m.
The publication reported Thomas Moakley, of Falmouth, defeated Arielle Faria in the race for the house seat. The Vineyard Gazette reported that Moakley, celebrating at The Captain Kidd restaurant in Woods Hole, claimed victory in the race Tuesday night.
In the Plymouth and Barnstable Senate District, Kari MacRae and Mathew Muratore are separated by just 50 votes with 99 percent of the ballots counted, the AP reports. Muratore has a slight lead.

In Falmouth, the town had two primaries to vote on, including for the State Senate seat in the Plymouth-Barnstable district. Kari MacRae and Mathew Muratore ran for the Republican nomination to challenge current State Rep. Dylan Fernandes, a Democrat.
Fernandes running for the Senate seat means his seat in the Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District will need a new face. Arielle Faria and Thomas Moakley are running in a contested primary for that seat.

The ballot is admittedly a thin one in many communities with the majority of state representative, state senator and federal legislator elections uncontested at the primary level.
Some of the candidates who are unopposed within their own party will meet general election opposition, although a large percentage will not.
One race with some intrigue in the primary is the Republican race to challenge U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren in November. Former U.S. Attorney John Deaton won that race, and will face off against Warren.
