Cruise Ship With 351 Regains Power After 2 1/2 Hours

The Coast Guard assisted the ship, which was stuck in Buzzards Bay during a 17-day cruise from Reykjavik to New York.

BUZZARDS BAY, MA — A cruise ship with 351 people has regained power after spending much of Friday afternoon stuck in Buzzards Bay.

None of the 191 passengers of 160 crew aboard the Star Pride were ever at risk, a spokesperson said. The Star Pride was in the midst of a 17-day trip from Reykjavik to New York. It's expected to continue its trip to Manhattan.

The ship lost power around 3 p.m. when the engine system lost cooling water, causing an automatic shutdown of the propulsion and auxiliary engines. Power was restored around 5:30 p.m. During the outage, an emergency generator provided power to necessary systems.
