Daring Helicopter Rescue By Cape Cod Coast Guard Team

A Coast Guard helicopter crew on Cape Cod rescued two men whose sailing boat ran aground in Boston Harbor in rough seas and 50 mph winds.

BOSTON, MA — A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter crew based on Cape Cod rescued two men whose sailing boat ran aground in Boston Harbor Friday. The rescue effort, hampered by rough seas and 50 mph winds, was successful. No one was hurt.

The owner of the "Silent Passage" vessel radioed the Coast Guard at about 1 p.m. and informed them his boat ran aground on rocks during low tide. The Coast Guard dispatched a boat but it was unable to reach the sailboat due to the low tide.

"Initially, the plan was to wait for the tide to refloat the sailing vessel, but the wind speed increased to between 20-30 knots and the situation was becoming unsafe," the Coast Guard said in a statement.
