Falmouth Condo Fire Remains Under Investigation

A fire at the Briarwood Condominiums was extinguished late last week. The cause remains under investigation.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Jan. 2 fire at a condo complex on Cape Cod was handled within an owner, and the building has been turned back over to its owners.

At 09:51 a.m., Falmouth Emergency Communications received a report of visible smoke and fire at the Briarwood Condominiums on Pine Valley Drive, fire officials said. The first-arriving firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames self-venting from a second-floor window.

"Fortunately, bystanders indicated that the unit was unoccupied," officials said.

They continued:

"Due to the condominium's challenging location behind another structure, fire crews initially fought the bulk of the fire from the exterior before entering the building. A second alarm was issued because of the significant fire volume, the building's position, and strong winds."

The fire extended to two neighboring units, but it was extinguished shortly after 11 a.m., with crews remaining on-site until about 1:50 p.m, officials said.

The building was then handed back to its owners.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
