HYANNIS, MA – A Falmouth man is accused of intentionally setting fires Wednesday morning at the construction site of the new Hyannis fire station. Allen Beckwith, 25, faces three counts of arson in connection with fires in an excavator and two mobile offices.
Officers responded to the site on High School Road around 12:20 a.m. and found the excavator "fully engulfed in flames," Barnstable police said in a statement. They also found two smaller fires under temporary office trailers.
One of the officers saw a man, later identified as Beckwith, inside the fenced construction site and chased him to a nearby pharmacy. The Hyannis Fire Department responded and extinguished the fires. No injuries were reported.
