Falmouth MLB Star Pitches Against Hometown Team

Falmouth native Steve Cishek pitched a scoreless eighth inning against the Red Sox to earn a hold in last night's Marlins win.

Falmouth native Steve Cishek got an early birthday present on Monday night from his head coach Ozzie Guillen.

The young righty relief pitcher for the Miami Marlins got to pitch against his hometown team, the Boston Red Sox, for the first time in his young Major League Career--and he rose to the occasion

Cishek, who turns 26 next Monday, earned the hold for Miami in the team’s 4-1 victory over Boston on Monday night. The Falmouth native came in in relief of starter Josh Johnson and pitched a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one and only allowing one hit.

Cishek graduated from Falmouth High School in 2005 and later attended Carson-Newman College. He was selected by the Marlins in the fifth round of the 2007 MLB Draft. In his third season with the Marlins, the young righty sinker-ball pitcher has already appeared in 27 games, and has a 4-0 record with a impressive 2.02 ERA, according to Yahoo Sports.
