Falmouth Police: Lethal Heroin Batch Kills 2 Amid 15 Overdoses

Falmouth police said they believe there's an extremely lethal mix of heroin and fentanyl circulating that's caused 15 overdoses in April.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police issued an alert after a lethal mix of heroin and fentanyl was blamed for two deaths and 15 overdoses last week. There has been a spike in overdoses in town in recent weeks, culminating in last week's events, police said. Narcan was used to save 13 of the overdose victims.

"It is believed that a lethal mix of heroin/fentanyl has reached our community and is responsible for this spike," Falmouth police said in a statement. "This significantly increases the risk of death to those already in peril ... Remarkably, thirteen lives were saved through the use of Narcan."

Narcan is a heroin antidote that's been in demand across the country as cities and towns grapple with opioid overdoses.

Falmouth police added, "If you know someone suffering with opiate addiction please implore them to seek immediate treatment. We will continue our efforts to reduce the supply of opiates in Falmouth and assist people suffering from addiction into treatment."
