Falmouth Rivers Edge Home A 'Total Loss' After Fire

A fundraiser is also underway through the Greg Hill Foundation for Fire Lieutenant Timothy Bailey, who was injured while fighting the fire.

FALMOUTH, MA — The Rivers Edge Road home that caught fire on Sunday, prompting an hours-long firefight that injured three Falmouth firefighters, is considered a "total loss", officials said.

On Sunday at 1:35 p.m., a neighbor reported smoke coming from a home at 22 Rivers Edge Rd. The Fire Department was notified and responded to this address.

The first arriving officials reported smoke coming from the building and personnel advanced a hose line to the front door and forced entry into the building.

A lieutenant, Timothy Bailey, and two firefighters entered the structure with a heavy smoke condition. Just a few feet into the home, Bailey fell through a burnt out opening in the floor into the basement, officials said.

After a mayday call, personnel immediately worked to gain access into the basement. Upon entering the smoke-filled basement, personnel conducted an immediate search and were able to locate Bailey.

Bailey was quickly removed from the basement and was assessed for injuries, which were deemed "significant", leading to a Med Flight request.

Bailey was transferred to an awaiting ambulance and then transported to an awaiting Med Flight at a local airpark and was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Two other fire officials sustained minor injuries that required transport to Falmouth Hospital, officials said.

The fire burned throughout the structure and eventually went to a third alarm due to the fire conditions and the need for additional personnel and resources. The fire was under control just after 3:30 p.m.

The structure sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss, officials said. The home was unoccupied, and the owners were out of state at the time of the fire.

Fundraiser

A fundraiser is currently underway for the Bailey family through the Greg Hill Foundation, the namesake foundation of the WEEI host.

A goal was set at $5,000 when the foundation shared that the fundraiser was live on Monday. As of Tuesday morning, more than $36,000 has been raised.

"Falmouth Fire Lt Timothy Bailey suffered multiple traumatic injuries while battling a 3-alarm fire on Sunday evening," foundation officials said on social media. "Any donation is greatly appreciated as the Bailey Family navigates an abrupt change to their Holiday Season."
