News release from Falmouth Delegate Dan Gessen.
FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth’s Delegate to the County Assembly, Dan Gessen, an infantry platoon leader in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, will be activated on federal orders on January 25th as a part of the 1-181 Infantry Battalion’s deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
Operation Inherent Resolve is composed of U.S. military and coalition forces with the goal of supporting Iraqi Security Force operations against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) since June 2014. Dan Gessen commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Massachusetts National Guard upon graduating from UMass Amherst. Delegate Gessen plans to continue serving as Falmouth’s representative in Cape Cod’s regional government throughout the deployment.

“It’s an honor to serve my country in the military and my community on the County Assembly; it just so happens that I’ll get the opportunity to do both simultaneously,” said Dan Gessen. “As a son of refugees, I owe a debt of gratitude to the United States, which has provided me with so many opportunities, and to my community, where I’m so lucky to have been born and raised. I see my service as a way to guarantee these opportunities for others going forward.”
First appointed to the County Assembly in April of 2022, at the age of 21, Dan Gessen won reelection in November of the same year. Throughout his tenure, Dan Gessen has prioritized finding solutions to cost-of-living increases that make it increasingly difficult for young and working people to remain as year-round residents of Cape Cod.

“My biggest focus this term has been making sure that we’re able to address many of the most pressing regional issues, such as infrastructure, wastewater, and climate change while making sure our solutions don’t further exacerbate the housing crisis that we have in our communities” stated Delegate Gessen.
“There’s still a lot of work ahead of us on Cape Cod, and I look forward to making sure Falmouth continues to have a seat at the table. Even while I’m on deployment.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the County Assembly has hosted all its meetings through hybrid or remote means. In June 2023, Delegate Gessen introduced an ordinance seeking to expand access to the county wastewater resources by investing $5 million from the county surplus. Delegate Gessen serves on the Assembly Standing Committees for Health & Human Services, Public Services, and Telecommunications & Energy.
