A State Police report released this month revealed Atkinson "was traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at a stop sign and flashing red light, entered the intersection without stopping or slowing, and was struck" by a Volvo wagon driven by the woman. Atkinson was driving a Chevrolet Silverado truck.

Atkinson's blood-alcohol limit was over the twice the legal limit and he tested positive for marijuana and diazepam, according to the report.
