Fuel Spill Closes Crows Pond Landing On Cape Cod

Though there is no evidence the fuel has entered the pond, Chatham officials have closed Crows Pond Landing indefinitely.

CHATHAM, MA — A fuel spill has closed Crows Pond Landing on Cape Cod indefinitely, and it remains unclear what caused it.

Officials in Chatham announced on Monday night that Crows Pond Landing is closed "until further notice due to a land-side fuel spill of unknown origin and undetermined quantity."

The spill was originally reported to the Chatham Harbormaster and is approximately 25 feet from the water’s edge, officials said. There is no evidence any has entered the pond.

Fire Department personnel are on-site with containment materials, officials said at the time, and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has been notified.

"Efforts are underway to contract with a qualified environmental clean-up company to address the spill as quickly as possible," officials said.
