Falmouth Man Shoots At Woman, Kidnaps Her After Home Invasion: PD

FALMOUTH, MA —A Falmouth man was arrested Thursday after breaking into a woman's apartment, firing a gun at her and then kidnapping her, according to police. Police said the man also held witnesses at gunpoint and took their cell phones to prevent them from calling for help.
Bryan Purdie, 32, was charged with home invasion, kidnapping, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault, failing to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, failing to stop for a school bus and various other traffic violations.
Just after 2 p.m., police said they received a report of a gun being fire at an apartment on Carriage Shop Road. When officers arrived, they saw a gray BMW speeding away.

Police said they later learned Purdie was driving the car and kidnapped a woman. Police said Purdie also shot at the woman but missed her. He then struck her in the head with the gun before kidnapping her at gunpoint, police said.
Police said Purdie led officers on a chase. During the pursuit, Purdie struck another vehicle while weaving into oncoming traffic and passed a school bus that was stopped to let children out, police said. No one was injured during the crash, but one motorist stopped and told police Purdie turned onto Pine Ridge Road from Old Barnstable Road.

Officers saturated the small residential neighborhood and found Purdie's car at a dead end. Police said they then caught up to Purdie on foot and took him into custody. Police said he did not have possession of a gun when he was found.
The victim was found on a nearby street. Police said she had head injuries from being struck with the gun.
Police said they later learned Purdie forced himself into the apartment and held four people at gunpoint. Purdie also took their cell phones to prevent them from calling for help, police said.
Purdie is being held on $50,000 bail. He is expected to be arraigned Friday.
