Historic Falmouth Headstone Taken By Family For Repairs

The headstone, which dates back to the 18th century, was thought to be stolen Sunday.

FALMOUTH, MA — A historic headstone thought to be stolen from the Old Burying Grounds off of Mill Road has been located. The family took the headstone for repairs, and it will be returned, according to police.

Police investigated what they believed to be the theft of a headstone dating back to the 1700s Sunday.

A witness who saw the suspect load the headstone onto the back of a truck described him as a white man, 50-60 years old with a black coat and baseball cap, police said. He drove a black full-size pickup truck – possibly an F-250 – with an extended cab, according to police.
