HVAC Unit Issue Prompts Falmouth Fire Response

The department was on the scene at Soprano's Casino by the Sea on Monday, but the building was quickly turned back over to ownership.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth Fire/Rescue officials were on the scene at Soprano’s Casino by the Sea on Grand Avenue on Monday, but the restaurant isn't in danger of closure.

Officials headed to 286 Grand Avenue at 5:48 p.m. on Monday after being notified of a commercial fire alarm activation.

"Upon arrival, the owner of the property reported that there was a power outage in the area," officials said. "The alarm source was identified as a duct smoke detector activation in the Soprano’s Restaurant."

Engine 21 found an electrical odor on the first floor and a more pungent odor, and a moderate smoke condition, on the second floor, officials said.

Crews investigating the roof found a burned motor on a rooftop HVAC unit with no extension to the structure. Power was secured to the unit, officials said, and additionally, power was secured to the entire structure, until the Town of Falmouth Electrical Inspector and Eversource could determine there were no additional power problems due to the power outage in the area.

The building was turned back over to the owner by 7:30 p.m.
