At Least 3 Injured In Downtown Falmouth Building Fire

FALMOUTH, MA — At least three people are injured after a fire swallowed a multi-purpose building in downtown Falmouth, Falmouth Fire Rescue Department said in a news release.

The fire was reported at 176 Main Street around 5 p.m. Monday, when passersby spotted flames pouring from a second-floor apartment above the Twigs of Falmouth gift shop, according to officials.

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said. Another person inside the apartments during the fire refused treatment, and one firefighter was treated for a minor injury.

The fire spread throughout the apartment and into the attic space above the apartment and businesses below the second floor sustained significant smoke and water damage, officials said. Utilities were shut off and the building is currently uninhabitable.

Inspectors with the town and the health department will be on scene Tuesday morning to further evaluate the building, according to officials.
