Man Found Dead In Mashpee Woods

MASHPEE, MA — A man was found dead in the woods in Mashpee Monday morning, according to police.

Police said they received a report of a missing man, around 7:40 a.m., in the Johns Pond area of town. After a brief search, officers found the man's body in the woods.

Police Chief Scott Carline has not identified the man or details about his death, other than saying the death was a tragic accident.

"Although it would be inappropriate to comment further while this is still an active investigation, at this point it does appear this was a tragic accident and our deepest condolences go out to the family members of the deceased individual," Carline said in a statement.

Police referred further inquiries to the Cape and Island District Attorney's Office. Patch has reached out to the office and will update this story when we know more.
