No Drowning Despite Search On Cape Cod

A beachgoer in Falmouth reported a possible person in distress, prompting a multi-agency search that found no drowning happened.

FALMOUTH, MA — A number of local agencies participated in a search for a possible drowning victim at a Cape Cod beach on Sunday.

At 1:18 p.m. on Sunday, the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department received a call for a possible drowning victim on the public side of Old Silver Beach. Units arrived to find Falmouth lifeguards in the water searching for a victim, officials said.

A person on the beach reported they saw something in the water that may have been a person in distress, but there were no reports of anyone missing from the beach.

A Falmouth Harbor Masters boat was in the area as well as Towboat USA and Sea Tow, which immediately began searching for a victim, officials said.

The Fire Department launched Rescue Boat 2 from the beach and began assisting with the search. Additional assets were requested to the scene, including the activation of the Barnstable County Tech Rescue/Dive Team (BCTRT) with drone support, which brought assets from many surrounding departments to the scene, officials said.

The U.S. Coast Guard conducted an aerial search of the area.

Barnstable County Tech Rescue Team divers entered the water and searched the area with no victims found.

The search was suspended at 3:57 p.m.
