Pit Bull Abandoned On I-195; Officials Seek Answers

Authorities believe the dog was intentionally left at a rest area.

WAREHAM, MA – Authorities or searching for those responsible for leaving a pit bull at a rest area on I-195, according to Wareham Animal Control. Officials believe the male dog was intentionally left along the highway.

Animal control officers responded to the rest area around 9 a.m. Friday for a reported "loose and aggressive" pit bull. One of the officers comforted the animal, and after gaining his trust, was able to secure him in the animal control vehicle.

The dog was taken to the Lakeville Animal Shelter but is not available for adoption or fostering, officials said. He did not have a collar or chip, and animal control has not received any reports of missing dogs.
