Recount Likely In Plymouth And Barnstable Senate Primary
Only 50 votes separate Kari MacRae and Mathew Muratore in the race for the state senate seat.

MASSACHUSETTS — The Republican primary for the Plymouth and Barnstable Senate seat is likely heading for a recount after a race that's separated by less than 100 votes.
As of 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Kari MacRae and Mathew Muratore are separated by just 50 votes with 99 percent of the ballots counted, the AP reports. Muratore has a slight lead.
The results were split between the two counties. In Barnstable Country, MacRae collected over 61 percent of the vote, but Muratore garnered over 58 percent of the vote in Plymouth County, giving him a slight lead overall.

The overall vote count has Muratore at 6,978 and MacRae at 6,928.
Cape Cod Times reports that, due to the narrow margins, MacRae has expressed interest in requesting a recount, which could take up to four weeks to be counted by hand in both counties.

The eventual winner of the primary will face current State Rep. Dylan Fernandes, who is vacating his seat to run for this senate seat.
Fernandes running for the Senate seat means his seat in the Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District will need a new face.
In that primary, Thomas Moakley defeated Arielle Faria.
