Cape Cod Infant May Have Died of SIDS: Report
The 1-month-old infant was found dead in Sandwich Tuesday morning. Police are investigating.

On Tuesday morning, police responded to a home on Short Way for a report that the baby was unresponsive. First responders performed CPR but it was unsuccessful. The child was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital a short time later.
“Preliminary information indicates no obvious signs of trauma, but in any case of this nature, both the State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause and manner of death,” the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

An autopsy was scheduled. The child’s identity was not released.
The child’s grandmother told the Cape Cod Times a doctor ruled the child died of sudden infant death syndrome.

Authorities did not release further details. The Department of Children and Families is assisting in the investigation.
