SouthCoast Wind Project Power Agreement Postponed 6th Time

SouthCoast Wind (formerly Mayflower Wind) initiated formal discussions and negotiations with the Town of Falmouth at the end of 2019, when the town's Select Board began evaluating its proposal for underground cables and a substation to reach a community host agreement. The town engaged staff and consultants to assess the project's impact within Falmouth's borders starting in 2020.

SouthCoast Wind agreed to pay over $60 million (specifically $60.4M) to Massachusetts utilities (Eversource, National Grid, Unitil) in August 2023 to terminate its original power purchase agreements (PPAs) for its large offshore wind project. SouthCoast backed out of signed contracts.

Since 2024, the Power Purchase Agreements have been extended over six times.

On December 30, 2025, the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities was informed that the power purchase agreements would be extended again and again.
