'Suicidal' Man Hospitalized After K-9 Search In Falmouth: Sheriff

The man was transported to Falmouth Hospital after he "appeared irrational and misleading" when speaking with police, officials said.

FALMOUTH, MA — A potentially suicidal man was hospitalized after police needed K-9 assistance to find him in Falmouth, the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office said.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., the Falmouth Police Department requested K-9 assistance from the BCSO to help locate a "suicidal, combative male party whom a family member advised had PTSD and displayed erratic and threatening behavior," officials said.

BCSO Sergeant Jason Bernardo and his K-9 Nick responded to assist Falmouth police with clearing the basement of the individual’s home. Sgt. Bernardo and K-9 Nick then began a track to locate the subject of the search, officials said.

They were unable to locate the individual on land, but the BCSO Drone Unit was requested to search both the water behind the home and boats off the beach.

The man, who wasn't named, was eventually found and transported to Falmouth Hospital as he "appeared irrational and misleading about his previous whereabouts," officials said.
