Wareham Deals With Simultaneous Fuel Spill, Fire On Busy Friday
While much of Wareham's fire personnel dealt with 100 gallons of spilled diesel fuel, extra fire personnel battled a vehicle fire.
WAREHAM, MA — To call Friday a busy day for the Wareham Fire Department would be a pretty severe understatement.
At about 10:50 am, on-duty personnel responded to Tobey Road after 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the roadway, officials said.
With that crew set to be tied up for a prolonged period, fire officials called on off-duty and on-call personnel to staff the fire station. As it turns out, they were needed.

Standy-by crews responded to another emergency call on Patterson Brook Road at 11:40 a.m. While at that scene, a call was received for a vehicle fire inside a garage on Wareham Lake Shore Drive at 11:46 a.m.
An Onset Fire Department truck that had just cleared a call of their own responded directly to the scene and reported a detached garage heavily involved in fire, officials said. The Onset crew utilized a deck gun, with tank water to start suppressing the heavy fire.

Wareham Fire Chief John Kelley and Engine 1 arrived to the scene and, in about 20 minutes, the fire was knocked down, officials said.
The building was heavily damaged with officials saying it will need "extensive overhaul."
"It appears that a vehicle in the garage caught fire, which then extended to the structure," officials said.
There were no injuries.
