Woods Hole Woman’s Club Entertained by Performances
Musical Program in December, Theatrical in January
The group “Queen Victoria’s Secret” highlighted the December meeting of the Woods Hole Woman’s Club with a performance of often whimsical and amusing British and American country music, mostly from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Musicians Ron Geering, Barbara Blair, Wendell Bishop, and Tim Radford performed in period costumes on period instruments including fiddle, whistles, recorders, serpent (a snake-shaped bass wind instrument), concertina, and percussion. Several club members further enlivened the gathering by dancing through the hall and the entire group joined in Singing Lord of the Dance.
In January, the program will feature theatrical performances by several of the club’s talented members. The public is invited to join club members at 11:30 am on Tuesday, January 14 at The Church of the Messiah Parish and Community Center, 16 Church Street in Woods Hole. Readings and a five-woman theatrical performance will focus on Women’s Suffrage noting that 2020 is the centennial celebration of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that granted American women the right to vote. Light refreshments will be served and those attending may bring a brown bag lunch if they wish.
The Woods Hole Woman’s Club brings members together to provide enrichment and mutual helpfulness for the betterment of Woods Hole and the surrounding communities. Monthly meetings from October through April include informative presentations, entertainment, and social events. Additional club activities include raising money for college scholarships and to support community organizations. New members are welcomed at any time during the year. Information about membership is available from Carol Casey at 508-299-8330.
