Joe Kelly Suspended 6 Games For Drilling Yankees Player

Tyler Austin of the Yankees got five games for his role in inciting a bench-clearing brawl.

BOSTON, MA — Major League Baseball has handed down suspensions in the wake of a brawl during Wednesday night's Red Sox-Yankees game at Fenway Park. Boston pitcher Joe Kelly got six games for nailing New York rookie Tyler Austin with a fastball; Austin got five games for charging the mound and inciting a melee.

Austin earlier in the game had what the Sox said was a late, unnecessary slide into second base that clipped Brock Holt.

Kelly and Austin will appeal the suspensions.
