David Ortiz Retirement Celebration: Red Sox Detail Plans

A weekend-long Ortiz party is scheduled at Fenway Park for the final weekend of the regular season.

The Red Sox are hopeful Oct. 2 won't be David Ortiz's last game. But whether or not they make the playoffs, Big Papi is going to be feeling all the love the final weekend of the season.

The Red Sox revealed details on how they plan to honor and celebrate the catalyst of the three World Series champion teams and one of the most popular players in franchise history during the regular season's final weekend.

Boston hosts Toronto Friday, Sept. 30, Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2. The series could decide who makes the playoffs and wins the American League East.

"Throughout the weekend, the club will pay homage to Ortiz’s accomplishments on the field during his 14-year career in a Red Sox uniform, celebrate his leadership in the clubhouse and in the community – both in New England and in the Dominican Republic – and thank him for the countless clutch moments that helped bring three World Series Championships to Boston," a team release said.

Red Sox players will wear commemorative David Ortiz patches on their jerseys and caps throughout the weekend, while the bases will also bear a special logo. Fans attending the season finale will receive an Ortiz patch.

The games on Friday and Saturday are at 7:10 p.m. The Sunday game is 3:05 p.m., when all major league teams play their regular-season finale. As of Monday afternoon, the tickets for the finale start on Stubhub at $177 and $149 on Vivid Seats.

Two NESN documentaries on Ortiz will be played at Fenway Park on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. as part of the GlobeDocs Documentary Film Festival during HubWeek.
