Fostering Student Growth, LLC Academic Tutor: Parents: Here’s a Reading Trick to Try at Home!

Fostering Student Growth, LLC Academic Tutor: Parents: Here’s a Reading Trick to Try at Home!

When your child finds a tricky word while reading, the first instinct is often to skip it or ask for help.

But what if the sentence doesn’t have enough “word clues” to help?

Try looking inside the word! 🔎

Many words have hidden clues:
🔹 Prefixes change the beginning
🔹 Root words show the main meaning
🔹 Suffixes change the ending

Example:
rewrite

  • re- = again
  • write = the root word

➡️ Rewrite means “to write again.”

Helping children recognize word parts gives them a tool they can use in any book, subject, or grade level.
