Disaster Dodged In School Bus Crash

A medical helicopter was called in, but all injuries were believed to be non-life threatening. None of the children were hurt.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A school bus carrying nine children on its way to an elementary school was involved in a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning that required a medical flight for one of the other vehicle's drivers. None of the children were hurt, officials said.

The driver of a pickup truck that rolled over was flown to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. The driver of the school bus and of an SUV involved were also transported to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash occurred a bit before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Brook and Water streets. It is being investigated by Framingham police. Subscribe to Framingham Patch for updates on this story and more local news.'

It was too close a call, particularly for a crash involving a school bus. The severe wreckage indicated a potential tragedy was dodged. Framingham's assistant fire chief told WBZ the crash "looked worse than it was." (See photos of the wreck below.)

"This morning's motor vehicle accident serves as a reminder to be alert around school buses, avoid distractions and heed your speed in school zones now that #Framingham is #Back2School. #SchoolSafety," the Town of Framingham wrote on Facebook.

The young children, heading to Brophy Elementary on Pleasant Street, were transferred to another bus after being checked for injuries. The MetroWest Daily News reported the children were in kindergarten through Grade 5.
