Open Seat Available on the Keefe Technical School Committee

As of 5 p.m. on Friday, no one has pulled papers to run for the open seat on the committee, to be vacated by Nelson Goldin.

The deadline to submit nomination papers to be on the ballot for the Town of Framingham’s annual election in April is Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. to the Framingham Town Clerk’s office.

But as of 5 p.m. on Friday, no one has pulled nominations papers to run for the open seat on the Keefe Technical School Committee, said Framingham Town Clerk Valerie Mulvey.

There are eight Framingham members on the regional vocation school committee, three of whom are up for re-election in 2015. They are James Cameau, Nelson H. Goldin, and John H Evans III.

Goldin informed his committee he is not seeking re-election, thus the open seat.

If an individual wants to run for the open seat, they will need to pick up nominations papers at the Memorial Building in the Town Clerk’s office on Tuesday morning, Jan. 20. (Town Hall is closed on Monday, Jan. 19 due to the federal Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.) The individual would then need to collect a minimum of 50 signatures from registered Framingham voters and submit those signatures to the Framingham Town Clerk’s office for verification, no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

If no one submits 50 verified signatures by the deadline, than individuals could mount a write-in campaign.

To win the seat, an person would need to receive a minimum of 50 votes in the April 7 Town Election, said Mulvey.

If no one receives a minimum of 50 votes, then an individual would need to be appointed to the open Keefe Technical School Committee seat. The rest of the Framingham members of the Keefe Technical School Committee plus the Framingham Selectmen would make the appointment, until the next election.

The Framingham School Committee has two seat up for election in April. School Committee member Andy Limeri announced last fall he would not seek re-election. School Committee member Beverly Hugo said she is seeking re-election. Two other individuals - Scott Wadland and Jim Kelly - announced they are running for the two seats.

There also will be a race for Framingham Selectmen. Selectman Jason Smith is running for re-election for another 3-year term. Town Meeting member Jim Pillsbury is challenging him for the seat.

As of Friday, there is no race for Framingham Planning Board. Both incumbents Stephanie Mercandetti and Thomas Mahoney are seeking re-election, and at the moment they have no challengers.

The town election is Tuesday, April 7.
