Local Voters Buck Statewide Voters, Back Gomez
Republican Gabriel Gomez topped the ticket in Hamilton and Wenham in Tuesday's special election for a U.S. Senate seat.

Republican Gabriel Gomez topped the ticket in both Hamilton and Wenham on Tuesday, even as Democrat Ed Markey went on to win Tuesday's special election for the U.S. Senate.
Gomez grabbed 1,040 votes, or 58.6 percent in Hamilton to Markey's 728 votes, or 41 percent, according to unofficial results from Hamilton Town Clerk Jane Wetson.
In Wenham, voters backed Gomez in similar fashion, with 56.8 percent, or 545 votes for Gomez to 409 votes, or 42.6 percent for Markey, according to results from Wenham Town Clerk Trudy Reid.

Turnout was also over 30 percent in both town - 33.6 percent in Wenham and 30.4 percent in Hamilton. Statewide, turnout was 27 percent.
