'Manchester by the Sea' Wins at Oscars

Casey Affleck won a lead actor Oscar Sunday night for his role as a grief-stricken brother in 'Manchester by the Sea.' The film itself won best original screenplay.

Affleck beat a field that included heavyweights like Denzel Washington, Ryan Gosling, and Viggo Mortensen.

'Manchester by the Sea' didn't win best picture. Neither did 'La La Land', which is news for people who turned the TV off after the envelope was read. That honor, eventually, went to 'Moonlight'.

Manchester by the Sea was filmed in the North Shore, including, of course, Manchester-by-the-Sea. The film, featuring Casey Affleck's character who finds himself in sudden guardianship of his nephew after his brother dies, found great success both critically and commercially.
