State Money Will Add Stone Dust as Final Touch on Rail Trail

The Department of Conservation and Recreation has awarded a $50,000 grant to help finish their rail trail.

The Border-to-Boston Rail Trail in Wenham will be getting a stone dust surface to add the last piece of the puzzle to the local portion of the trail - part of a bigger rail trail running from Peabody to Salisbury.

The state Department of Conservation and Recreation awarded a $50,000 grant to Danvers and Wenham on Friday morning, according to an announcement from DCR. The grant will have to be matched with $10,000 by the two towns. Wenham Interim Town Administrator Mark Andrews  accepted the grant for the town.

The grant was awarded next to Cherry Street Fish Market in Danvers on Friday.

The stone dust will make it easier for bicycles and wheelchairs, for example, to use the trail, according to coverage of the award ceremony by the Salem News.
