Winthrop Principal Leading Finalist for N.H. Job

Winthrop Elementary School Principal Carrie Vaich has been named a finalist for an elementary school principal job in Lee, N.H.

The principal at has been named a finalist to become the next principal at an elementary school in New Hampshire.

Vaich has been principal at Winthrop Elementary School since 2007.

The “Oyster River Cooperative School District Clean Slate” blog reports that Vaich spent 45 minutes meeting with teachers and another 45 minutes meeting with parents in Lee.

“She told parents she hoped she would serve as Mast Way principal for many years and that she did not intend to use the position as a stepping stone in her career,” the Clean Slate blog reports.

The blog said it was withholding the name of the other candidate and called Vaich as the “leading candidate for the position.”

On Monday, the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District posted a job opening for the Winthrop principal job, listing it as "anticipated." The deadline to apply is July 5.

The opening at West May Elementary School came about after Principal Kris Gallo left to become the principal at the brand new Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Concord, N.H.

It is one of several administrative changes in the regional school district, just outside Portsmouth, that includes a new superintendent this summer.
