Boy and Parents Speak About Hingham Stranger

The 8-year-old Hingham boy, who was  approached by a stranger on Friday while walking to his bus stop said the incident felt odd to him.

Sam Marwill told 7 News that he said 'no' when asked if he wanted a ride to school by a young man with black hair in a light colored station wagon or van near Bradley Park Drive.

At first, Sam's father, Roger Marwill admitted he wasn't sure what to make of his son's report, but once he heard the two other reported incidents later that day involving a suspicious man with a similar description, he was relieved he called police.

"When it first happened, you know, a side of me said that maybe it was a well-meaning parent, but then when you read about the two other incidents, it starts to drive it home and you start and you think maybe we really did dodge a bullet there,” he told Channel 7 News.

The suspicious man was also spotted inside his light colored station wagon at the Plymouth River School and again on Winthrop Road on Friday.

Parents noticed the man inside his vehicle at a bus stop at the entrance of the Plymouth River School entrance on Friday morning at 7 a.m..  When approached by one mother, the driver said he was doing work nearby and was waiting for his boss.  Police did note that the man was alone and did not speak to any children.

A mother on Winthrop Road also spotted the man with a similar description watching her two children playing on her front lawn while he was driving slowly by the house. Approximately five minutes later the same station wagon drove by a second time very slowly in the same direction. This incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Friday.
