Derby Academy Honors Hingham Students
Special Awards were presented to many Hingham residents.
Special awards were given to the following students from Hingham at the 220th Derby Day Exercises which was held last month:
Gianna Beniers ‘11 earned the Zildjian Music Award, established by the Zildjian family in 1997. This award is given to an eighth grader who in his or her pursuit of musical excellence at Derby Academy, has demonstrated the love of music through exceptional effort, enthusiasm and positive attitude. She was also recognized for her service as the captain of the Toppers, one of Derby’s Spirit Teams. The Toppers won the annual Field Day Intramural Competition for girls. In addition, Gianna received the girls Varsity Lacrosse team’s Most Improved Player award.

Taylor Hatch ’11 was recognized for his service as the captain of the Lights, one of Derby Academy’s Spirit Teams.
Steven Kirk ’11 was named as one of two Parade Marshals. The two eighth graders with the highest academic ranking are awarded with this honor to lead the Academic Procession to Graduation. He also received the Susan Feins '85 Science Prize, given in memory of a former eighth grader, Susan Feins, who had a strong interest in and enthusiasm for the study of science. The prize is given to the student in the eighth grade with the highest academic average in science. In addition, Steven was recognized for his service as the captain of the Darks, one of Derby Academy’s Spirit Teams. The Darks won the annual Field Day Intramural Competition for the Boys.

Thomas Kylander ’11 received the History Award, given to an eighth grade student who has demonstarted throughout his/her enthusiasm and promise as a student, a genuine interest in and love for history. He also was presented with the Trustees Major Banner Spirit Award for Grade 8 boys.
Kyle Lussier ’11 was recognized for his service as the secretary of US Student Council (Grades 7 and 8).
Andie Minicus ’12 was recognized for her service as a seventh grade representative for the Upper School Student Council (Grades 7 and 8). She also earned the Girls JV A Lacrosse team’s Most Improved Player Award.
Madeline Murphy ’12 was recognized for her service as a seventh grade representative for the Upper School Student Council (Grades 7 and 8).
Clarke Robinson ’11 was recognized for his service as the assistant captain of the Darks. The Darks won the annual Field Day Intramural Competition for the boys.
Liam Sullivan ’13 received the Head of School Pennant Spirit Award for Grade 6 Boys.
Luke Sullivan ’11 was recognized for his service as the President of the Upper School Student Council (Grades 7 and 8) as well as for his service as assistant captain of the Darks, one of Derby Academy’s Spirit Teams.
