South Shore Conservatory Holds Free Classical Repertoire Concert
This free concert is Friday, May 4 in Hingham.

Discover a refreshing interpretation of classical repertoire with Sonata Pastiche, a concert devoted to energetic sonata selections by HuiMin Wang, pianist and MaeLynn Arnold, violinist on Friday, May 4, 7:00 p.m. at
Cellist Adele Carter will perform as guest artist and Admission is free.
Well respected as accomplished instrumentalists and instructors, Wang and Arnold have collaborated to develop an inspired program of stormy, romantic, spirited sonatas from the world’s most prestigious composers, including works by Camille Saint-Saëns, Claude Debussy, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. The eclectic collection of masterpieces gathers mesmerizing compositions created for piano and violin, revealing some of the most difficult repertoire written. True to their devotion as instructors, the pair also aspires to provide musical motivation for instrumental students of all ages through the musical chemistry they experience as ensemble performers.

“Sonata Pastiche offers an audible translation of the fulfillment we seek in our lives, musical interpretations that we can relate to,” says Arnold. “If you listen thoughtfully, you can collectively hear how the melodies parallel our personalities. Thematic elements of each symphony speak the language of friendship and challenges that come to fruition on the concert stage. It’s educational and entertaining!”
Pianist HuiMin Wang received the distinction of Excellence Award in Young Artistic Talents from the Ministry of Education of Taiwan at the age of 15, enrolling at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany shortly thereafter. She furthered her studies with Bulgarian pianist Krassimira Jordan, first in Vienna and later at Baylor University. After receiving a Master’s degree in Piano Performance, Wang completed graduate studies at New England Conservatory. An active collaborative artist, she has performed in the United States, China and Taiwan with several renowned artists. She has appeared live on WGBH Boston, and has recorded for both NPR’s Alamo Classics and Boston Records labels. She previously served as staff pianist and opera coach at The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. Currently, Wang serves on the piano faculty at South Shore Conservatory, where she is past Piano Department Chair Dean of Students, and Advisor to the President. Her contributions were recognized when she received an award in 2010 for her outstanding service to the Conservatory.

Violinist MaeLynn Arnold began her career at age six under her mother’s instruction. By age 10 she was studying at Oberlin Conservatory with Marilyn McDonald, making her solo debut the same year with the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra. She received her Bachelor's Degree in violin performance from Boston University, where she attended under full scholarship with Bayla Keyes. She is also a certified Suzuki instructor. As a performer, she has participated in the Internationale Junge Orchester Akademie tour in Germany, and performed as soloist with the Lakeland Civic Orchestra and the Toledo Symphony. She was the first place winner of the 2010 Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition in Akron, Ohio. In 2000, she founded a trio with her sisters, Strings of Gold (www.stringsofgold.com), performing in concert and in public outreach settings. She has studied with Milan Vitek at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Ani Schnarch at the Royal College of Music in London, and Ivan Chan of the Miami String Quartet. She has performed in master classes for such renowned violinists as James Buswell, Christian Tetzlaff, William Preucil, Charles Castleman, Lewis Kaplan, and Stephen Clapp. Arnold is currently the assistant concertmaster of the Boston String Players, and serves on the violin faculty at the South Shore Conservatory.
Guest Cellist Adele Carter received her DMA from the University of Maryland, her Master’s in Music from University of Southern California, and her Bachelors of Music from Cleveland Institute of Music. In addition to having her own teaching studio since 2000, she has taught cello at All Newton Music School, Chestnut Hill School, Santa Monica Waldorf School and North Hollywood Private School. She has served as a visiting lecturer at Bridgewater State College. She currently serves on the string faculty at South Shore Conservatory.
