Hingham Teacher Still Looking for Donations for Springfield Tornado Victims
The High School is collecting items such as children's books, school supplies, and gift certificates, and will also be doing additional fundraisers to raise money for Springfield Relief.
Today is the last day will be collecting donations for the victims of the recent tornadoes that struck Springfield and surrounding areas.

Hingham High School Physical Education teacher Meghan Melanson who graduated from Springfield College started the fundraising and collections because her friends were affected by the tornadoes that hit on June 1.

“A few of my friends actually teach out there and their schools were destroyed,” Melanson said. "I have such good friends out there still and helping out the community is what Springfield College is all about."
Melanson contacted the Hingham Student Council who are now involved with the collections. Melanson said Hingham residents should donate school supplies and anything students and teachers would use in the classroom such as tissues, markers, and crayons.

Hingham Hingham School has already got interest emails back from parents asking how they can help out with the collections.
According to Melanson, there were at least two schools hit hard by the tornados. One was Cathedral High School who Hingham High School plays in Hockey, the other is an elementary school in Westfield, Munger Hill Elementary. Cathedral High School had major damage to the entire building breaking windows, tearing off roofs and collapsing walls. Munger Hill had roof damage to many classrooms and supplies were destroyed.
To help, drop off any donation to the front office at HHS or to Meghan Melanson by the end of today, Thursday June 9.
