Two Students Cited For Drugs During Hingham High School Lock Down
Two students were found with Marijuana and were issued a civil citation from the Hingham Police Department.
This morning, conducted a lock down as Police and K9 searched for drugs.

Peraino said ths lock down is something that the school had asked the Police Department to conduct. In the past it has been done randomly, and Peraino said it happens at least once during every school year.

"They have a policy at Hingham High School to make every attempt to keep the building safe," Peraino said. "It's just a policy that they have to keep the building free of any drugs and any weapons."
, officers from the , and K9 units from neighboring law enforcement agencies conducted a sweep of Hingham High School’s parking areas and surrounding grounds, according to an email sent by Principal Dr. Paula Girouard McCann.

Dr. McCann sent an email to parents Friday morning at 10:41 a.m. alerting them that inside the building there was a sweep of the lockers and a few classrooms.
“Hingham High School is committed to keeping drugs out of the school,” McCann said in the email. “Today’s procedure was conducted with this goal in mind.”
According to McCann, Friday's sweep of the grounds began at approximately 9:20 a.m. and during that block, the entire school went into a lockdown.
McCann said that during a lockdown, students are required to stay in their classrooms and students in the hallway are taken into the nearest classroom. All doors are locked while teachers remain teaching.
The sweep of the parking areas and building was concluded by 10:30 a.m.
According to McCann, students whose vehicles, lockers, or back packs contained illegal drugs will be disciplined according to the Hingham Public Schools Code of Discipline.
“Hingham High School continues to be committed to keeping drugs out of school,” McCann said in the email. “Staff and administration will work together to be proactive in dealing with this issue. We will be vigilante in our enforcement of school policies concerning illegal drugs. Please know that the goal of today’s sweep and any future sweeps is to make Hingham High School a safe and secure place where learning can occur without the dangers of illegal drugs.”
