Hingham High School Inducts 47 Students into National Honor Society

The National Honor Society inducted 47 new members last night at a candlelight ceremony.

The induction ceremony was held at the auditorium in front of parents and family members, and was followed by a reception. The 35 current members were also introduced and honored.

National Honor Society President Jake Awtry, Vice President Christine Connolly, secretary Edward Pershing, and treasurer William Harlow spoke to the new members about the characteristics of a NHS member. The senior officers asked the new members to be loyal to their school and to maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

The NHS current members invited Social Studies teacher Ron Woolley to be their guest speaker.

The new inductees were introduced individually by NHS adviser Karen Shaw and and then each were presented with membership certificates and pins by principal Dr. Girouard-McCann and assistant principals Jennifer Henriksen and  Richard Swanson.

Next year's officers were also announced at the end of the ceremony.    Grant Whitney will be the president, Margaret Watson will be vice president, Louisa Brady was announced as the next secretary, and Trevor Schuck will be the treasurer.

After the ceremony, students and their families were invited to a post-reception with refreshments.
