Hingham Middle Schooler Advances to South Shore Regional Spelling Bee

Grace Ward of Saint Paul's school will compete in Saturday's Comcast South Shore Regional Spelling Bee in Randolph.

One Hingham student has advanced to the 2012 Comcast South Shore Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday.

Grace Ward,  a seventh grader at school, recently won the qualifying bee at Saint Paul School with the word “audience,” earning the opportunity to compete in this spring’s Comcast South Shore Regional Spelling Bee, the local qualifier for the renowned Scripps National Spelling Bee.

“We are proud to be sponsoring the Comcast South Shore Regional Spelling Bee as part of our ongoing commitment to invest in the local communities we serve,” said Steve Hackley, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Greater Boston Region in a statement.  “We are very excited to see Grace at the regional competition and we look forward to sending a student from the South Shore to Washington, D.C. to compete at the national bee in May for the fourth year in a row.”

The Comcast South Shore Regional Spelling Bee will be held at Lombardo’s in Randolph this Saturday, March 24. 

Grace will compete against 25 other local students for the opportunity to move on to compete at the national level. Comcast will send the winner of the regional spelling bee plus one escort on a six-night all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Footage of the Comcast South Shore Regional Spelling Bee will be available in late March in the “Get Local” section of the On Demand menu for Comcast digital cable customers to watch at no additional cost.
