Hingham Special Education Panel Discussion Scheduled For Wednesday

The discussion will feature an overview of special education law, how reading programs can change a child's life, and the social-emotional well-being of siblings of children with special needs.

The Hingham Special Education Parent Advisory Council will hold a panel discussion, “An Evening to Celebrate Inclusion” Wednesday evening at

The event will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m

The discussion board will feature an overview of special education law which will be given by Dr. Jean Curtis Loud, Director of Student Services.  Loud will explain how a child is determined eligible to receive special education services.

Liz O'Neill, Special Education Teacher at will explain how specialized reading programs can change a child's life and how they are used in the Hingham Public School system.

Jennifer Milia, School Psychologist at will begin a discussion on the social-emotional well-being of siblings of children with special needs.  She will explain how siblings must learn to live with, and sometimes care for, a sibling who may require intensive attention and intervention from parents and professionals.  According to Milia, a wide range of feelings toward their sibling with special needs may include fear, resentment, acceptance, and love.
