recently awarded two Hingham piano students, Laura Varas and Erin Driscoll. The two pianists received awards in the Conservatory’s 11th annual Piano Solo Competition.
Varas, a student of piano instructor HuiMin Wang, took third place in her age division. Driscoll, a student of piano instructor Eugene Kaminsky, took second place in her division.
According to Wang, the competition is a fun way to encourage all students to become better musicians. At the competition, the students perform one required musical selection and one of their choosing. They then receive feedback from three judges. First place winners in each age division received scholarships, and all winners were invited to participate in the winners’ concert which followed the competition.
