As a first grader, she wanted to make a dress with ruffles for her doll. Her mother was not home, so Clinton taught herself how to create gathers.
That same year, Aly wrote a book, “Our Neighbor Millie,” about the solar-powered windmill. Lindsay said Hull Municipal Light Plant made copies of it to help support the use of windmills in other areas.
When she was assigned a project on Iceland in fourth grade, another book was born. The then 9-year-old created a 70-page masterpiece complete with hand drawn pictures and resource maps.
Lindsay said her daughter has a knack for language, particularly foreign languages. Aly loves French; so singing in the "language of love" for a scene in an outside-of-the box production was a special treat.
“I love musicals more than anything else” she said.
The talented young actress had a standout out role last year as Louisa Luchi in Hull Performing Arts’ “Toilers of the Sea,” playing the 16-year old wife of Joshua James, age 32.
The outlets Derby creates for students in the arts and sports - rounding out academic studies - are not lost on Aly, who has always wanted to be a vet.
Early on, an art teacher recognized that Aly learns differently; engaging best with creativity. Despite her maturity, talent and likeability at such a young age, Aly said and feels like a normal kid.
She enjoys playing goalie on Derby lacrosse team and pitching for softball.
