Hingham native Spencer Love opens tonight in his biggest role to date – as the co-lead in Hull Performing Arts’ original musical, Where the Fun Begins.

Playing Sully Sullivan as a kid, he is the lead for the first act. "Where the Fun Begins" takes place in old Paragon Park and is the final in a trilogy of stories Cinzi Lavin has written for Hull Performing Arts about the town.

Mom Jennifer painted the sets and Love’s 15-year old brother is assistant director.

“HPA treats everyone the same” he said. “They take the time to learn your name and who you are – you are not just one in the crowd there.”

He likes that HPA allows performers the freedom to learn lines, warm up, and learn songs in their own style.

Music is a big part of Love’s life; he said he is always looking for the rhythm, the beat.  Singing in "Where the Fun Begins" is a bonus.

The 12-year old plays bass clarinet at , where he enters 7th grade this fall. Recently, he noticed that he could match notes from the bass clarinet to the piano, and began teaching himself to play songs on the piano.

At 5’ 9 ½”, Love said people are surprised at how calm and peaceful he is when playing music or singing. He enjoys the accomplishment and has set a personal goal to learn to play at least seven musical instruments. He wants saxophone to be among them.

A cartoonist from a young age, his Mom taught him still art this past winter. Describing how he uses still art tools to give shade and definition to his cartoons, Love innovated his cartooning style by combining the two approaches.

"Where the Fun Begins," opens tonight with additional performances July 24, 30 and 31 at Fort Revere Amphitheater in Hull.
