Host Families Needed

Students from Spain and Italy will be talking English classes at HHS this summer.

Four students from Italy and Spain, who will be in Hingham to study English this summer, are still in need of host families. The students, who range in age from 15 to 18, will be participating in a cultural immersion program that incudes English classes at Hingham High School.

HHS teacher Tracy McKay Blake said hosting a student can be an incredibly rewarding and memorable experience for the students and host families.

"It adds an amazing dimension to family life," she said. "Most who have done it say they get so much more out of it than they put into it. They have made friends for life," said Blake.

Host families can be single parents, empty nesters, retired couples or families with children of any age. Blake said 30 of the students have already been assigned to homes in almost every area of town, including Crow Point, downtown and the high school neighborhoods.

"it's a lot easier than people imagine it will be, because they students are so busy with school and activities almost every day," said Blake. in addition to their classwork, the students are busy most days with excursions, overnight trips and other activities -- including a day where students give back to the community by cleaning up a Hingham beach.
