Lineup Announced For South Shore Conservatory's Evenings Under the Stars

The Hingham concert series begins the weekend after Independence Day.

  is pleased to announce their Evenings Under the Stars  2012 performances. 

Now in its 16th season, this popular outdoor concert series draws audiences from all around the Greater Boston area.   

Starting off the 2012 season on Saturday, July 7, is the Evenings Under the Stars Festival Orchestra with Hingham native Nicholas Palmer conducting.  Drawing from popular major motion picture blockbusters, this Music from the Movies concert features the sounds of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Wizard of Oz, Raiders of the Lost Ark and themes from James Bond movies.  The night wraps up with classic summer Pops repertoire and the traditional favorite, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture!

Back by popular demand, rhythm and blues band Soul Kitchen will have you dancing on Saturday, July 14.  Drawing musical inspiration from legendary artists from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, the four-horn section grooves along with tunes popularized by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Otis Redding and Ray Charles.  They boast a tight big band sound.

On Saturday, July 21, EUS presents Bo Winiker Orchestra presents an evening of American popular music.  Relive famous moments in jazz history through this musical tour of Tin Pan Alley, with nostalgic radio hits from the 1930’s to the present.  Musical highlights herald from Broadway, the movies and the Grammys with this multi-faceted band.

Opera Under the Stars takes the stage Saturday, July 28.  Delight in an evening of opera and operetta tunes that audiences know and love.  This intimate evening features some of the area’s best opera singers leaving concert-goers uplifted with an “up close and personal” live concert experience.

Wednesday mornings are popular with the whole family!  Evenings Under the Stars presents four family-friendly performances:  Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys returns on Wednesday, July 11; followed by an intergenerational singalong with Jennie Mulqueen presents Julie Andrews on Wednesday, July 18; musical storyteller Debbie and Friends entertains on Wednesday, July 25; culminating with Puppeteer Dan Butterworth on Wednesday, August 1. 

New this year, an exciting collaboration between SSC and Berklee School of Music offers Berklee Stars at SSC, a Friday night entertainment series.  Berklee’s finest hit the stage with Soul of a Man on Friday, July 6, Cameron Gilpin on Friday, July 13, Amelia Ali on Friday, July 27 and Joanna Teters on Friday, August 3.

All concerts take place in the Jane Carr Amphitheater, One Conservatory Drive, Hingham.  Friday and Saturday evening concerts start at 7 pm and Wednesday morning concerts start at 10 am.  Although limited onsite parking is available for handicapped patrons, parking for Saturday night concerts for the public is at the Hingham School Bus Depot.  Parking for Wednesday morning and Friday evening concerts is onsite for everyone.  The EUS concert series is generously sponsored in part by Hingham Institution for Savings, The Carr Family, The Palmer Family and The Curtis Family. Berklee Stars at SSC is sponsored by William Gallagher Associates.  EUS receptions are sponsored by Hemenway & Barnes, The Fresh Market, and The Village at Duxbury.  Performers are sponsored by Granite Electric Supply Co, Derby Street Shoppes, and Massa Products Corp., and the EUS media sponsor is South Shore Living Magazine.

Tickets purchased before the day of the concert are $35 for pavilion and $20 for lawn seating for Saturday evening concerts.  Lawn tickets purchased at the door are $25 for Saturday night concerts. Tickets for the Wednesday morning family concerts are $15 adult and $5 children.  Tickets for the Friday night Berklee Stars at SSC concerts are $10.  Season subscriptions to the four Saturday evening concerts are available for $184 for pavilion and $132 for lawn seating and include the pre-concert receptions. There is no charge for children under three.
