Senior Athletic Award Ceremony Packs the Auditorium at HHS

At last night's award ceremony, 156 senior student-athletes were honored with plaques donated by the Hingham Sports Partnership.

In support of ’s 34 varsity teams, nearly every seat in the auditorium was occupied Wednesday night for the presentation of the Senior Athletic Awards.

One hundred and fifty-six senior student-athletes were honored, a number that represents 66 percent of the entire graduating class. As a whole, produced seven Patriot League Championships, 23 state tournament qualifiers, 98 league honors, and three state championships to  date for the 2010-2011 academic year. The stage was decorated by the 13 banners that will be added to the school’s display of accomplishments.

Director of Athletics, Margaret Conaty said, “We’re going to celebrate the many hours you’ve put in, the passion with which you’ve competed, and your accomplishments.”

In custom with tradition, two students were brought to the stage to speak on behalf of their peers. Rachel Lee, who was a member of the Girls Soccer and Track teams, spoke first. She was able to provide some unique details and anecdotes that accompanied that many championships seen by her class.

“Athletics in this town have given our community a sense of fulfillment,” said Lee.

, Captain of both the Football and Boys Track teams, spoke of his learned living in the moment, and doing something just for the sake of doing it, coming as a result of athletics.

“The thing that I found most valuable was the power [athletics] had to clear my mind,” said Stone.

Conaty then returned to the stage to commence the presentation of awards. Each student-athlete was called to the stage as a two-slide clip of their accomplishments and photos were projected onto the screen. Along with their athletic achievements, Conaty spoke regarding academic honors, clubs, community service, and their future plans.

The longest applause of the evening was reserved for Donovan Ramsay, the only member of this group who will be entering into military service in August, serving for the United States Navy.

After presenting all plaques, donated by Hingham Sports Partnership, Conaty also thanked Head Baseball Coach Bob Rogers, who will be leaving after three years of coaching.
