Six Hingham Students Win Derby Academy Athletic Awards

These Hingham students won awards last Spring.

At the end of each athletic season, the Middle and Upper School students and faculty at gather together to celebrate the successes of each team and honor those student athletes whose contributions to the teams and progress in mastering a sport go above and beyond. In the spring, Derby students may elect to participate in baseball, softball or lacrosse.

Derby students from Hingham honored at the Spring Athletic Awards Assembly  included:

  • Owen Dewire, Grade 6, earned the Boys JV Baseball Coaches Award.

  • John McDougall, Grade 6, earned the Head of School Pennant for Boys awarded annually to recognize the areas involving sportsmanship and character building. The Pennant awards are considered two of Derby’s highest athletic awards, given to the girl and boy in sixth grade who best typify the Derby Spirit in athletics by their attitude toward teammates, coaches, opponents and officials.

 

  • Grace McNichols, Grade 8, earned the Girls Varsity A Lacrosse Most Improved Player Award.

  • Emma Murphy, Grade 6, earned the Head of School Pennant for Girls awarded annually to recognize the areas involving sportsmanship and character building. The Pennant awards are considered two of Derby’s highest athletic awards, given to the girl and boy in sixth grade who best typify the Derby Spirit in athletics by their attitude toward teammates, coaches, opponents and officials.

 

  • Madeline Murphy, Grade 8, earned the Trustees Major Banner for Girls awarded annually to recognize the areas involving sportsmanship and character building. The Major Banner awards are considered two of Derby’s highest athletic awards, given to the girl and boy in eighth grade who best typify the Derby Spirit in athletics by their attitude toward teammates, coaches, opponents and officials.

 

  • Noah Sadhwani, Grade 7, earned the Boys JV Lacrosse Most Improved Player Award.
